When most people think of Crohn’s Disease, probably one of the last adjectives that comes to mind is ROMANCE. In fact, Crohn’s Disease can make you feel the exact opposite of romantic. How in the world can extreme fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, or abdominal pain possibly put you in the mood for a fun-filled romantic evening with your loved one? If you’re flaring, struggling to deal with the side effects of your medication, desperately trying to avoid an infection this cold/flu season with your weakened immune system, or just plain worn out from the fight, odds are, romantic date nights are often pushed to the back burner.
Girl, we’ve been there.
We know how hard it is to get up the energy to put on a smile and bat your eyelashes at your spouse. We’ve experienced that brain fog trying to come up with something flirtacious to say at the drop of a hat when you feel like you’re going to fall over. We know what it’s like to want to snuggle up in baggy pj’s that hide your figure. We know the feeling of looking at yourself in the mirror and having to try extra hard to hide the dark circles under your eyes or cake on the make up to hide the sickly pale look. We know the struggle and sadness that might come from not being able to participate in indulging in the usual chocolate or fresh strawberries because you’re afraid of what might happen if you eat them.
With all of this going on in your life, why bother celebrating???
We also know the answer to that…because we CAN! Why should we Crohn’s warriors miss out on one of the most romantic holidays of the year just because our immune systems are on the warpath? It’s time to put the romance back in Crohn’s Disease!
